It has been a while since I applied myself to regularly posting. 2024 was full of change including relocating to a new city, farewelling great friends, finding a new church, making new friends and starting a new job.
Now I will continue my journey of sharing how verses throughout the Bible have inspired and challenged me.
Enjoy and let me know if you have been encouraged or challenged, or if you disagree.
How did it begin?
Early in January 2017 I became aware that many faith-based posts on Facebook were antagonistic and even somewhat aggressive. I felt called to accept a challenge to use my experience, education and a handful of different versions of the Bible to reflect on the YouVersion Bible app “Verse of the Day” six days a week and present thoughts based on how the Good News intersects with daily life.
My half hour reflections are not meant to be for those with any formal Bible training or exegetical, but more to stimulate thinking about how what’s in the Bible is actually relevant to those who believe and potentially attractive to those who don’t.
What education and experience do I have, I hear you ask?
I completed a Bachelor of Theology in 2006 and have been involved in both leadership and general positions in 3 churches with a variety of Evangelical and Pentecostal traditions since the early 1990’s. I have served as sound desk operator, worship leader, youth group helper and leader, preacher, deacon, elder and consistently involved in small groups. Prior to that I grew up with parents who were missionaries and church pastors. I also have a Diploma in Business and a Diploma in Management, have read a few books, attended leadership seminars and listened to a heap of preaching podcasts. For 30 years, I worked for government owned utilities. I have been on the tools, in the office and then 11 years in management. I am a father with three grown children and a couple of grandchildren. All that to say, while I still have plenty of growth left, I have learnt a lot about people, how they treat each other, how they respond to God and how they respond to church.
I hope you are encouraged by my reflections and look forward to hearing any feedback you might have. I might not always be right or express myself correctly but that should be all part of the fun of getting us both to think how the Good News relates to life.
Check out my book When Dreams Go Dry – how to live and lead when all seems lost, which is available to order online and as an audiobook on your favourite listening app. The book was released in November 2021 and it is a reflection on how Joseph might have felt and how he actually responded to the many difficult times he went through.
Many blessings to you,
Camis
