The Story
Do you fully trust Jesus with your life? Do you believe that he is the all powerful, king of the universe and victorious over death, demons and darkness?
It is so easy, I find, to take on some of the things that the world around us which go against our belief in Jesus and his work on the cross. It is easy to get caught avoiding ladders, the number 13 or black cats crossing our path. We can be easily tempted to check the horoscopes or tarot cards to see what our future might hold. We can hope to win the lottery and increase the odds, apparently, by rubbing the belly of a Buddha statue or a waving cat. We can get nervous when someone spills salt or breaks a mirror. Becoming more popular, and even fun, is to rush to touch something wood when declaring that everything is going well in our lives, in an effort to ward off something bad happening. Another one is karma – many don’t really know what it means but are happy to think that doing good things will somehow make good things happen to us and we wish that others get what they deserve especially if they have done something bad. Thank God, I don’t get what I really deserve as a sinner who deserved being banished from the presence of God, he gave me grace and mercy through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
At the same time we can also put our trust and security in Christian artifacts, such as the symbol of a cross, or church traditions, so called sacred rituals, rather than in our Saviour and Lord, Jesus.
This song is hopefully a prompt for you, and me, to make conscious decisions to trust in Jesus only. To not be scared of bad things, to know He has it under control and that no matter what happens, whether good or bad, He is in control. The song can also be a reminder that our hope is in Jesus and nothing else. If we do have other things in our life which we have added to Jesus, it is time to make the change and get rid of our idols.
