The Story

This song starts off with the words that Eli told Samuel to say to the voice that was calling him in the night, while he lived in the temple as a boy. 1 Samuel 3:9,10.

Being open to what God has to say to us is very important and while He rarely, if ever, speaks to us in an audible voice, God does speak to us in various ways. Most often, though we are too busy or our lives are too crowded with noise and distractions to hear (or read) what he has to say.

A lot of the time what he has to say doesn’t match what we want him to say because we are blinded by the wisdom and pursuits of this world so we miss or ignore his voice. Being open to hearing God’s voice means making time and humbling ourselves before him.

It is important to spend time in prayer, reading the Bible and and being connected to other Christians so that we can hear, discern and understand how God is speaking to us, growing us, teaching us, encouraging us and correcting us.

It’s a joyful song expressing a serious commitment to hearing from our God and Saviour.

Lyrics

Speak Lord, your servant is listening
Speak Lord, your child is here
Speak Lord, and make it clear
I want to hear, I want to hear.

I want to hear your voice – stronger
I want to hear your voice – higher
I want to hear your voice – louder
I want to hear your voice, hear your voice.

Speak Lord, your word of correction
Speak Lord, your word of wisdom
Speak Lord, your word of courage
I want to hear, I want to hear

I want to hear your voice – wiser
I want to hear your voice – clearer
I want to hear your voice – nearer
I want to hear your voice, hear your voice

Speak Lord, through your word to hear
Speak Lord, through your dreams to see
Speak Lord, through your family
I want to hear, I want to hear

I want to hear your voice – Jesus
I want to hear your voice – Jesus
I want to hear your voice – Jesus
Lord speak to me, speak to me

Speak Lord, your words of love
Speak Lord, your revelation
Speak Lord, your word of knowledge
I want to hear, I want to hear

I want to hear your voice – Jesus
I want to hear your voice – Jesus
I want to hear your voice – Jesus
Lord speak to me, speak to me

Speak Lord, through your word to hear
