The Story

Following Jesus is more than following rules and remembering information. Many seek to fill their minds with theology, history, Scripture and apologetics but spend far less time seeking the heart behind the facts. These are important and helpful tools to help us understand who God is and how he works. It is important to fill our minds with the things of God as that affects how we think and behave in our world. However, we cannot be truly changed unless we personally experience the heart of God in the midst of our knowledge. Unless we let what we know transform our heart and mind then we become legalistic, faithless and hypocritical. Paul tells us that that our minds should be transformed (Romans 12:2) but also that knowledge puffs up (1 Corinth 8:1). 1 Corinth 13 tells us we can have all the knowledge in the world but without love we are just noise. Peter says that gaining knowledge is a part of the process of growing in Christ but ultimately love is the end result. (2 Peter 1:5-7) In some ways gaining knowledge and facts is the easy part but the short distance between our head and heart is often a great chasm to cross. Here is a prayer for those who need help to get the knowledge of God from their head into their hearts.
