The Story
Colossians 3:2, is the theme for our church this year and this song encourages us to lift our eyes, heart and mind to things above. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33 that we are to seek first the kingdom of God and earlier in 6:21 he lets us know that where our heart is, that is what we treasure.
To find ultimate fulfilment, wisdom, peace, love, joy and purpose we need to look to our creator. We won’t find those things on this earth, well, not that would be lasting and complete. In James 1:17 we read that every good thing comes from above, and so that is where our eyes, heart and mind should be looking to receive the things that really matter, and last.
Isaiah 51:6 is also a great verse to give us perspective. The things above are permanent and certain but those of this world is temporary and fleeting.
It’s hard not to be distracted by the pleasures and temptations of this world and it is difficult to see that there is more to life than the physical aspects. Let us not forget, that is a battle for our attention, for our eyes, heart and mind (Eph 6:12). Who and what we serve in this lifetime will determine our eternity. Who or what is Lord of your life? Is it Jesus or something/someone else?
Lyrics
[verse 1]
For love beyond compare
For courage to overcome
For peace that overwhelms
I’ll set my heart on things above
Set my heart on things above
[chorus]
Distraction all around, pulling me down
Keepin me on the ground
Made for more, made to soar
Never ignore, we’re at war
Until deaths door, it’s a chore
How can we be sure what we’re fightin for,
If this world we adore and Christ is not Lord,
Lord of all, He’s Lord of all. Lord of all.
[verse 2]
For wisdom beyond compare
For knowledge to overcome
For freedom that overwhelms
I’ll set my mind on things above
Set my mind on things above
[chorus]
Distraction all around, pulling me down
Keepin me on the ground
Made for more, made to soar
Never ignore, we’re at war
Until deaths door, it’s a chore
How can we be sure what we’re fightin for,
If this world we adore and Christ is not Lord,
Lord of all, He’s Lord of all. Lord of all.
[verse 3]
For hope beyond compare
For vision to overcome
For sight that overwhelms
I’ll set my eyes on things above
Set my eyes on things above
[chorus]
Distraction all around, pulling me down
Keepin me on the ground
Made for more, made to soar
Never ignore, we’re at war
Until deaths door, it’s a chore
How can we be sure what we’re fightin for,
If this world we adore and Christ is not Lord,
Lord of all, He’s Lord of all. Lord of all.
[outro]
He is Lord, He is Lord
He is Lord of all
He is Lord, He is Lord
He is Lord of all
He is Lord, He is Lord
He is Lord of all, Lord of alllll
