The Story
If you have been a follower of Jesus for any length of time you will know that our prayers are not always answered exactly when we want them to be. The greatest test of our faith is how we respond when it seems God is silent in our life.
Those difficult times could include health issues, relationship dramas, financial situations, persecution, loneliness, addiction, and the list goes on. Sometimes we grow more by waiting than by getting immediate results. Sometimes the way we want things to turn out are different to what God wants. Sometimes God is lining things up in the background for his purpose and his glory.
Many of the Psalms, including Psalm 6 and Psalm 13, that David wrote show that even this great man after God’s own heart had times when he was frustrated, even angry, at God for not answering his prayers. This shows that God doesn’t mind us being upset, afraid or even angry at him. The main thing to remember is that our timing is not God’s timing and we cannot forget all that he has done for us in the past, so we need to trust him, even in the waiting. We do this by standing on his promises, obeying his instruction and being faithful in the things he has already shown and given us.
This lyrics of this song express that frustration and are very relevant to Kerry and I at the moment as we wait for God to provide a house for us to buy and to reveal the next step in his plan for our lives while dealing with ongoing family conflict and health issues. How long, O Lord, how long?
