The Story
I wrote what has become the verses and chorus of this song in 2002, but as separate poems. When starting out on this music journey I thought they fitted together perfectly. How many ‘worship’ songs do you know that spend so much time on just praising the character and nature of God culminating in a response declaring the surrender of our lives in worship. In Romans 12:1, Paul tells us that our correct response to God and what he has done for us is one of complete sacrifice of our lives to him and his cause.
Now about the style of music I selected. I will probably release a version at a later date which might appeal to a wider audience, but this one really appeals to me. I feel that the worship music of today is very much the same. The same feel, the same instruments, the same style, the same mood. Very predictable, a lack of creativity and imagination, and often uninspiring – you might feel differently and that is okay with me. This version of the song, though, gets me up and dancing with joy. I picture a room packed full of young (and young at heart) people jumping in time with the music and singing at the top of their voices in joyful praise to God, declaring, Here’s my Life.
