The Story
So, how do you start your day? What is your up and at ’em routine? What is the first thing, after going to the toilet, that you do in the morning when you get out of bed? Is it reaching for the coffee and Facebook? Is it rushing around getting ready for work or preparing for everyone else in the house, before chaos erupts.
I have found that getting up 40min before I need to and setting that time to read the Bible and pray prepares me for the day. One of the most common prayers I have liked to finish that time with is “Lord, thank you for this opportunity today to provide for my family, to be a light in the world and to be able to contribute to your kingdom.” in this prayer that I wrote is gratitude for God’s provision, understanding that this life is not about me but about showing people His ways and His love and that I have the opportunity to give of my time, money and abilities to further His kingdom.
In this song, I have expanded on my simple prayer and commit everything I do to God asking for his advice and direction, asking for the courage to do what he asks me to do, the humility to learn, and the wisdom to know what to do and how to respond to whatever comes up during the day. Being open, teachable and available is a start but putting what we know we should do into practise is just as important.
No, I don’t always follow this routine, sometime I get distracted, sometimes I forget, I don’t tend to have the same routine on the weekends. No, it doesn’t make the day go smoothly necessarily but I don’t do it is a ritual to try and get God’s favour, I do it to try and get to know him and his will for my life. It’s not about does this work but it’s about who I entrust my life with each day – is it me or is it the Lord of Lords and King of kings?
