Numbers 5:6,7
These verses are a summary of most of the laws God gave his people, Israel, and it is a reminder to us that the way we treat people matters to God, a lot.
Just think how different the world would be if each of us took this instruction and applied it as if our life depended on it, which it actually does. If we grasped the concept that God is offended when we purposefully offend people. If we took it to heart that hurting others, hurts God. If we realised that ignoring or belittling those around us means that we ignore and belittle God. If we lie, cheat, steal we do not just do it to humans but are doing it to and before God. If we do not desire reconciliation with our friends, family, employer, employee, neighbour or random stranger then we are not desiring reconciliation with God.
There are two parts to making up for our wrong and bad treatment of others – confess and make more than full restitution. Both of which are extremely hard to do. It’s hard to admit I am wrong and it can hurt financially, emotionally and or practically to make amends. If we are serious about making things right with God, then it includes making things right with those we have wronged.
The quality of our relationship with God, is dependent on how we treat other people. Have you ever considered that? Who do you need to make things right with?
