Please Rise

Leviticus 19:32

Who knew that the signs you see on trains and buses asking people to give up their seats for the elderly was straight out of the Bible.

Some would say it is common sense to respect the elderly but that thought really goes against the strongly held ‘survival of the fittest’ belief and the ingrained selfishness of humanity.

I think today’s verse points to the principle that by honouring others we honour God.

Being considerate, thoughtful, grateful and respectful towards those that God made and loves dearly not only reflects God heart for them but shows our heart towards God.

How do you treat people? Particularly those who might be older, weaker, less able, and slower. Are they a hindrance to you, getting in the way and slowing you down? Perhaps that is how you view God as well.
