Leviticus 19:1 ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.’
The ultimate sign of adoration and admiration is to take on the characteristics of the ones we look up to.
We find ourselves mimicking older siblings when we are very young. A common complaint of the older child is “Mum, she’s copying me!” Then, we copy the way our movie heroes dress, act and speak, as we get older.
In sports, we watch our idols over and over so that we can learn their moves. Then we practice those moves over and again with the hope of becoming just like them.
Just note the amount of people on social media who classify themselves as influencers – a call to be followed, liked, and imitated.
If we want to know how to do something, we eagerly jump onto YouTube and find someone who knows what they are doing and copy them.
And yet, we often do not have the same desire and intensity to be like the God of the universe, who is totally perfect and the ultimate example of good and grace, mercy and love.
Do you desire to take on the characteristics of the only one who is truly worthy of admiration and adoration? What stands in the way of that pursuit?
