Leviticus 18:22
I am not sure why I highlighted this verse specifically. Probably because of it’s relevance to the current and controversil topic of homsexuality.
I do find it interesting that this instruction is one of the last in a list of nineteen specific instructions about sex. I think the majority of people would mostly agree with the other eighteen instructions, but this one seems to generate the most discussion and debate.
Sexual urges are incredibly strong and lust can be extremely difficult to overcome. It seems impossible in moments of passion to think beyond that moment and to envision the consequences.
In Leviticus 18, it seems that the biggest consequence of these listed sexual acts is dishonour. They either dishonour family members or dishonour God.
If we don’t care how our actions, including sex, dishonour God and or those we love, then life is purely about us and satisfying our desires at all costs. That attitude can lead to a lonely life and a life far from the best that God has for us.
Is there any part of your life that is dishonouring God or those around you?
