Leviticus 11:44-45
If you have started to read the Bible cover to cover, you will probably have flown through the stories of Genesis and Exodus. When we get to Leviticus, however, I find it hard going and difficult to read and comprehend. It is filled with do’s and don’t and gets very specific about what is clean and unclean. I get overwhelmed and wonder how anyone could have ever remembered and then actually kept a fraction of these instructions, let alone all of them.
I guess that is the point, though. When was the last time we were truly overwhelmed by the purity, holiness and goodness of God. When was the last time we felt totally unworthy, unholy and unable to reflect even a fraction of His character and comply with His unattainable standards.
We lose the all-consuming gratefulness for His mercy when we take it for granted. We can easily become complacent of the cost it took for us to be considered holy and righteous before God through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Let us pursue holiness as if our life depended on it, not to earn salvation but because we have already been saved.
