How much?

Exodus 34:6,7

“The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yes he does not let the guilty go unpunished;”

On Easter, and every other day, Christians celebrate the act of God that demonstrated the sincerity of His justice, the severity of His punishment, the scope of His love and the scale of His forgiveness.

Unless we understand the extent that God hates sin we can not fully grasp how much He loves sinners.

Unless we understand the harsh punishment sin deserves, we cannot fully comprehend what we were redeemed from.

The more that we realise how much trouble we were in, how lost we were, how far we were from God’s high standard; the more we will be grateful and the more we will embrace His love and forgiveness.

Needless to say, we can’t ever repay His grace, love, forgiveness or faithfulness but we can at least make a wholehearted attempt. The first step is to thankfully accept His forgiveness and genuinely pledge to live our lives for Him rather than for ourselves.
