Exodus 33:19 “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
God can do whatever He wants, when He wants and how He wants. Fortunately, He is good. He doesn’t torment, He doesn’t mess with humanity, He doesn’t accept bribes and He is consistent, totally unlike the reputations of the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian gods.
Because He is good, He also shows mercy and compassion to those who don’t necessarily deserve it, which is why Jesus came, so that He could be merciful to all who chose to accept His mercy.
It is one thing to be shown mercy and compassion, but they are gifts that need to be accepted and embraced.
Perhaps we don’t accept and embrace these gifts because we think there is a catch or because we feel that we don’t deserve them. Perhaps we are too proud to accept them, or we think we will feel better if we accept the consequences of what we have done.
Or, maybe we feel that we can do things on our own, without help. Perhaps we might think that we don’t need mercy and compassion, but none of us are perfect, are we?
