Peer Pressure

Exodus 23:2 ‘Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong’

Peer pressure is not a new thing; it has been around since the beginning of time. Our natural instinct is to take the easy option, to fit in, to feel accepted, to avoid rejection and to avoid danger.

So when it comes to standing against the majority, whether it is supporting a less popular sporting team or fighting for the rights of a minority group, it is something that we are tempted to just go with the crowd.

It takes guts, determination, single mindedness and a real sense of right and wrong to make a decision to not do what everyone else is doing.

When it comes to justice and doing the right, it pays to know that we are siding with God. Although tough when we don’t have the support of other people, we need to be confident that being on God’s side has a longer term benefit for society and His kingdom.

Real heroes are prepared to stand for what is right despite pressure to turn a blind eye or leave well enough alone. Of course, this needs to be done in a gracious and God honouring way if it is going to please Him and make the desired difference.
