Out of our comfort zone

Genesis 11:4 ‘and not be scattered over the face of the earth.’

Building a tower wasn’t the issue, it was that everyone wanted to be together instead of going out and doing what God wanted them to do.

Interestingly, the early church were the same, they gravitated towards staying together in the comfort of Jerusalem instead of going into all the world, as instructed.

In Genesis, God caused confusion and division to arise so that people were forced to separate. In Acts 8, we read that persecution broke out and followers of Jesus were scattered, sharing the good news as they went.

It is natural for us to want to stay in our comfort zone, where things are known and often safe. Real growth, comes from stepping into the unknown and stepping out in obedience. It seems if we don’t do it ourselves, then it may be forced on us.
