Abusing God

John 14:21

Those in abusive relationships may still here the words “I love you” before or after experiencing those terrible acts of violence or verbal attacks. Those of us on the outside are appalled and know that this is not right and that this is not love at all. In those situations, the words “I love you” are used to manipulate and coerce and at the same time to try and cover over the wrong that is being done. Many Christians try to cover over their deliberate wrongdoing by coming to church on Sunday and saying “I love you” to God in an attempt to manipulate and coerce him into blessing them and to look good in front of others. Followers of Jesus will express their sincerity by living life the way He asks them to, everyday and in everything we do. Sure, we will make mistakes but our remorse and repentance show our true commitment.
