Exodus 34:21
Burn out, depression and anxiety are common symptoms of a busy society. There is constant pressure to perform and to provide. It is expected that we need to fill our lives with activity, work and people in order to live a productive and meaningful life. We struggle to keep up so we drink another coffee, down another energy drink or pop some pills to mask the need for rest that our bodies were designed to have. We were designed to work but we were also designed to rest. The trouble with resting is that it seems unproductive. It actually requires faith to rest. It requires faith that believes rest is beneficial, faith that God is still working and faith that God will honour our recognition that rest is important. Of course there are the few who take rest far too seriously and don’t do much at all which is not healthy either.
