Avoiding accountability

Hebrews 4:13

The warning that lawyers give in relation to having a traffic accident is to never admit it is your fault. We live in a world where accountability is to be avoided if possible. After all, if you are accountable then you are responsible. If you are responsible, then it is your fault when things go wrong. If it is your fault, then you are the one who pays and who wants that hanging over their head. In order to avoid this pain we all try to find someone or something to blame when the fur hits the fan. While our natural tendency is to avoid accountability we will not be able to avoid being accountable to the One who knows all and sees all. Denying there is a God and living like there is no God is our way of trying to avoid accountability. In an interesting irony while none of us would measure up to His standards those who trust in Jesus and follow Him will be the only ones who avoid the eternal pain of our ultimate accountability.
