We can all too easily fall into thinking that we are good enough, that we have arrived at the highest level of goodness that we can and will achieve in our lifetime. Based on our own assessment which usually includes comparing ourselves with the outlaws and tyrants of history we assume that when we get to the pearly gates we will pass the test. What we often fail to remember are the words of Jesus who said it was impossible for anyone to get into the kingdom of God. We can take this statement and give up completely or we can give into the understanding that this is precisely why Jesus came – to make the impossible possible. That is the good news. Some would try and downplay Jesus’ statement about the impossible, but this detracts from the significance of the Saviour and the enormity of His sacrifice.
