It would appear that the habit of criticising prominent people and trying to pull them down has been going on since the beginning of time. King David of Israel who lived 3000 years ago had to contend with opposition, negativity, gossip, fake news and scandalous accusations as his enemies tried to dethrone him. We can have similar experiences when we stand for what is right, declare our allegiance to God or simply speak out against something that is not right. To these responses, David declares that our ultimate accountability is to God himself, and it is his opinion that counts far more than anyone else’s. It is more important and beneficial to be faithful to Him rather than cave in to the often overwhelming and crushing opinions of those who cannot determine our eternity.
