1 Corinthians 10:13
Temptation by it’s very nature is a strong attraction. We are never going to be tempted to do something that is boring and unattractive. What we are being tempted towards will always seems exciting, fulfilling and desirable. When we follow through though it will always leave us with that feeling that we shouldn’t have. We will ask ourselves why we did it and promise never to do it again. There is a heaviness and guilt when we give in and a sense of helplessness when we feel that urge again. We end up convincing ourselves this is who we are and we cannot and even should not change. By accepting this cycle as natural we give up on the idea that life can be better and don’t even dream of a different life. Breaking out of a cycle, resisting temptation and choosing a better direction is hard work but not impossible. It is hard work but worth the effort. Next time you are tempted look for and make the decision to choose the alternative life giving, seemingly overwhelming alternative that God will reveal to you.
