1 John 4:9
I think all religion can be summarised as being about humans trying to impress a god, being a god or striving to become a god. It is generally hard work and one is never sure whether they have done enough or are good enough to achieve the state or status they are aiming for. Compare that to the good news of Jesus where God became a human not only to show us how to live but died so that we could live a life of love. He was who we could never be and did what we could never do so that we can be more than we were going to be. His claim to be the God is unique, his life was unique, his resurrection is unique and his promise of eternal life and love is revealed by his Spirit given to us when we believe and follow him. Following Jesus is not about performing or conforming, it is about growing into the new person He has made us through obedience and love.
