Forgiving is not easy

Colossians 3:13

Receiving an instruction to forgive in the midst of conflict and hurt will in itself generate anger and resentment. This is because it is a natural overwhelming reaction to want revenge and to hurt back when we have been wronged. As with any situation, if we have already learnt how to deal with it before we get into it, we will be able to respond better but more often than not we are not prepared. So, if you are in the middle of a situation now it is going to be difficult to understand that forgiveness will release you from the prison of anger, resentment and even pain that you are building for yourself. Continuous thoughts about the other person, the incident and how to get even will prevent you from getting on with your life. It is often the case that you are hurting yourself more than the other person is hurting. I know it seems like a huge wall to jump over but how about giving it a try with the help of Jesus and forgive just as he forgave you and see what happens. Importantly forgiving is not forgetting, it does not mean trusting and it doesn’t mean appropriate justice shouldn’t be served.
