There is a perception that Jesus was a mild mannered, Clark Kent kind of guy, someone who was passive and weak. His followers have also earned that reputation with many looking on seeing Him as a crutch for those who can’t cope with the reality of life. Somewhere along the line it has been overlooked that Jesus called his followers to a life that counts not a life that was comfortable. We are not promised an easy life, in fact He promises that we will be rejected, ridiculed and even persecuted for following Him. Not only that but we are called to do difficult things like love our enemies and pray blessings for those who persecute us. It is not easy to follow Jesus, it can be tough, counterculture and even painful but it is a decision that very few regret. Put it this way, no one gives up or walks away because it is too easy.
