Romans 5:3-4
Every time something bad or sad happens to us we have a choice how to respond. Our response is determined well before the event itself. The way we respond to negative things is often decided by how we view ourselves and how we view life. If we have a low value on ourselves, we tend to think that things happen to us because we deserve them which tends to develop a victim mentality. While we outwardly grumble about why this should be happening to us, which itself is a cry to be valued and seeking attention, we inwardly beat ourselves up for bringing it on ourselves. A person who is confident in who they are and realises that this life is not all there is will generally be able to find the silver lining in every cloud. These are the people who make lemonade out of the sour things life throws at them, these are the people who use their misfortune as a platform to help others, these are the people who become better rather than bitter. The only consistent way to respond to bad and sad things in a positive way is to know we are loved by the One who made life.
