Isaiah 48:17
It is a funny and strange thing that from the moment we are born we naturally believe that we know what is best for us. Even as an infant we let everyone know who is in control and demand to have food and attention when we think we need it. It might be ridiculous to think that an infant, toddler or even a teenager knows what it best for themselves. If left to their own devices they will more than likely hurt or poison their bodies and their minds or those of others. Even as adults we are confident that we know what is best for us. Looking around us we know that people constantly make choices that are obviously not good for them even though they insist on indulging in food, drink and pastimes that are not healthy. Since we never came with an instruction manual we can use our experience and education to help us know what is good for us but is that enough? Wouldn’t it be better to consult the one who made us to find out who really knows best? Even as this is mentioned our natural reaction is to think that we will be restricted or restrained from things we enjoy – why is that? Because we want to think we know best. Look at the world around us and tell me if that ideology is working.
