One of the questions that people ask is “How could a loving God send people to hell?” This can be asked in a genuinely concerned way or as a way of justifying someone’s unbelief. This famous verse (John 3:16) which is often quoted by Christians and often seen on signs and placards helps to answer that question. John tells us in this statement that the loving God has gone to extravagant and painful lengths to ensure that no one has to go to hell. It is because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus that there is the way to avoid ending up in an eternity devoid of all goodness. This might sound difficult to accept but more often than not ignorance, arrogance and complacency will keep people from simply receiving the free yet invaluable gift of eternal life.
