Getting rid of evil

Many religious people, from any religion, take it upon themselves to try and rid the world of evil. This often ends up in violence and hatred as so called good and evil people clash. Some call it justice while others call it cleansing. Those who associate with ‘good’ justify their actions by claiming to be superior, closer to God and even acting on God’s behalf – as if He needed help. As followers of Jesus our mandate is to get rid of the evil in our own lives not the lives of others. We are called to love those caught up in evil and this involves getting rid of our own angry, bitter, hateful and violent attitudes and behaviours that get in the way. Fortunately Jesus’ spirit helps to cleanse us and guide us to get rid of the evil within us and replace it with good. Only when our heart is full of compassion and love can we begin to peacefully influence the world toward good and away from evil.
