If we engage someone to represent us we want them to portray an accurate picture of us or at least adequately present our case. What good would it be if we engaged a lawyer to represent us in court if they didn’t have our best interest at heart? What if they were more interested in pleasing the judge, jury or even the prosecution team rather than us? This wouldn’t make sense and we would surely and quickly find someone else who would represent us well. What chance would we have of our side of the story being told if the one who has been chosen to speak and act on our behalf didn’t do their job? Unfortunately there are many people throughout history who have proclaimed to be representatives of God who haven’t done a very good job. Sure, we can never display His love and truth perfectly but there are those who don’t even try or are more interested in their own reputation than the one they represent. As followers of Jesus we are His representatives to the world around us. It is a big responsibility but it us also a big honour considering what He has done for us.
