What rules your heart?

If we stop and reflect long enough we will discover what is ruling our heart. What makes you the person you are? What emotion do you default to? What makes you laugh, cry, stress, get angry, worry or excited? What is it that inspires, inhibits or invigorates you? More often than not fear will be the primary thing that either motivates or demotivates us. Fear of being left behind or left out can encourage us to engage. Fear of the unknown or fear from previous experience will stop us from stepping out. If we are honest and have spent time reflecting on what rules our heart it can be a bit scary and we may not like what we discover.

When we give our lives over to Jesus he promises peace. Can you imagine your heart, your motivation for living defaulting to and being determined by peace instead of fear? How would that change your life? Unfortunately many of us miss out on this peace because we have a strange attraction and even addiction to what we have always known. In today’s verse we are told to let the peace of Christ rule our hearts. We don’t have to look for it or work for it or earn it we just need to let it.
