The soundtrack of our life forms, reinforces and communicates our values. The music playlist we listen to engrains, embeds and encourages attitudes, habits and opinions. Why is that? There is something special about music and song that touches the soul. Perhaps it is because they originate from the heart and are formulated in the mind, they are birthed and expressed in emotion. Music is a great tool for teaching, remembering and communicating and it can be used in a helpful inspirational way or in an unhealthy way. For followers of Jesus, music can help us in our walk or it can confuse and distract us. Most of the time I feel as if the music in the church is making us feel good but doesn’t really help us because we are stuck with a certain style and genre that is not used for teaching wisdom but simply for so called worship which is often nothing more than empty promises and romantic words.a
