Why are you working?

Eastern and Asian cultures have a strong history of promoting provision for family rather than saving for self. I have personally witnessed fellow workers sending a good portion of their hard earned income back to their home country to support those that they love and care for. They live simply and scantily so that they can supply what their family need. Not only that but these cultures strive to save and invest for future generations at the expence of themselves living in relative luxury. Generally speaking these people seem to be happier and more content than us western folk who spend everything on ourselves. There is something fulfilling about funding those less fortunate. It seems to make our efforts more worthwhile when we contribute rather than consune.
