Freedom

All of us desire to be free. Free to think what we want, say what we want, do what we want and go where we want. Freedom is generally considered to be a lack of restraint and rules. It is a nice ideal until we realise that freedom without boundaries is actually chaos and potentially dangerous. Imagine having the freedom to drive on the road without rules. Imagine the freedom to retaliate without any restraint. Imagine the freedom to live out your deepest and darkest desires. What would the world look like if everyone had that type of freedom? There is a freedom which Jesus gives that is healthy, brings people together, promotes peace and brings order. It is a freedom from guilt, shame and fear. Not only does he release us from the prison we have made ourselves but he leads us to live a life free from these things. It does, however, actually mean having some restraint, self control and a concern for others. The freedom Jesus gives is not a free for all but a best for all.
