What us the opposite of love? I think most people would say hate but have you considered that independence and selfishness could be more opposite to love than hate?  Love is about sharing and caring.  Well at least that is the type of love we are called to as followers of the Christ.  Trouble is that we are brought up in a culture that teaches us to deal with our own problems and not to bother anyone with our issues.  Toughen up and get over it are two responses to drama in our life when we have tried to express our distress.  Nobody listens and nobody cares are another two things that we say to ourselves to reinforce what we have been taught.  There is truth in the saying ‘A problem shared is a problem halved’ and that is the motto we need to live by if we are to live the way Jesus wants us to.
