Just about every day we hear about someone falling for a scam of some sort. How can so many people fall for the same sort of con? It might come in different guises and forms but essentially they all promise something that is newer, better and will bring about more wealth or an easier life. We all know that because something is shiny, easy and sounds good it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is true but it is sooooo attractive it is often irresistable. It is the same with spirituality. Someone is always coming up with a new revelation or a new movement or a new scheme that will make us more spiritual or more healthy or more wealthy. There have been so many who have fallen victim or at the very least experienced extreme disappointment and disillusionment when they have put all their time, energy, faith and effort into something which was ultimately false. To be fair these spiritual scams are not always the result of purposeful plotting but most often they involve a lack of discernment by well meaning people. Good intentions and short term success is no substitute for testing, proving and praying about every ‘new’ thing.
