Good Father

Recall some of the recent portrayals of fathers in movies or TV series.  Generally they are shown to be out of touch, lazy, ignorant, embarrassing, stupid, irresponsible, beer drinking, sports mad and hormone driven idiots.  Okay, there might be the odd exception but have you noticed? Perhaps this image is partially motivated by people’s experience of absent fathers and men in general.  With divorce and separation at an all time high and many children being conceived outside of long term committed relationships, it’s no wonder that children are growing up without fathers and women are practically widows parenting without help from a man.  It’s never one persons fault, I am not blaming anyone but simply observing what is happening.  Children need fathers and ladies generally crave the companionship, intimacy and protection of a loving, caring and responsible man.  The Bible describes God as being the perfect father and reveals that he has a particular compassion for children without fathers and ladies without husbands.  So if you haven’t had a good father around or if you are craving that companionship and protection call out to God and you will find that he can be more to you than any earthly father or any other person could ever hope to be. 
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
