Standing out

In one sense I admire people who speak out for truth, declare their values and fight for what they feel is right.  However, on the other hand I wonder if it is really very helpful in the big picture.  It seems to me that Jesus didn’t ask his followers to stand out and isolate themselves by publically speaking out against the values of society, it’s lack of morals or require a change of behaviour.  What he did ask his followers to do was to stand out by being extremely well respected by unbelievers for active compassion, generous giving and sacrificial service to their community.  Even that maybe misinterpreted and misconstrued but ultimately we are carriers of good news, hope and love which should culminate in good deeds that point people to our good Father.
