If you haven’t had much to do with the Bible you may probably have the idea that it is a book full of rules that Christians and Jews have to follow in order to please their God. If that is the case you could also be a person who is appalled when you see people who go to church or claim to be a Christian deliberately do or say things that even you know they shouldn’t be doing or saying. You might be surprised that God is even more disappointed and appalled when people deliberately disregard the standards that they know are desired of them. We all know what it is like when we hear someone say they love us but they don’t show us. Worse still is when they say they love us but abuse or hurt us in some way. It is the same for God. Nobody is perfect and perfection is not possible but if our faith and love is real then we need to at least try to practice what we preach. By the way, the Bible is not simply a rule book but an unfolding story set across centuries of God’s interaction with human beings and their response to Him. Give it a read sometime.
