There is a heightened sensitivity these days to anything that sounds negative about certain social issues, particularly same sex marriage. Maybe I am simplifying it too much by saying that sensitivity usually comes out of being hurt, abused and unloved. Where did that pain come from? My guess is that the pain generally and genuinely came from being judged and condemned, from being isolated, excluded and neglected. So instead of being able to have rational debates and civil discussions, emotions and convictions turn the conversations into heated arguments. It is unfortunate that those that identify as Christians often take on the role of a harsh judge instead of a gentle helper. Jesus knew judging people, condemning them and excluding them would lead people away from God rather than toward him. How soon we forget that we were once just as far from him than those whom we are quick to cut off and cut down.
