How do you get what you really really want? While many settle in for hard work to achieve their dreams some would prefer a magic genie to grant them three wishes and others hope for a multi million dollar win in the lottery. Sometimes God can be expected to fulfil the role of that genie. After all, if he is so powerful and loves us so much then surely he will give us what we want. When he doesn’t come through for us that provides enough of an argument to say that he doesn’t care for us and ultimately that he doesn’t exist. Ironically though, when someone wins the lottery or has some other good fortune they often find themselves soon discontent and unfulfilled because what they had received wasn’t really all that they had hoped for after all. To avoid this disappointment and discouragement I find it best to do it the other way around. Instead of thinking I know best and asking God for what I want I try to acknowledge that God knows best and ask what he wants.
Take delight in the Lord , and he will give you your heart’s desires.
