If you have ever been to some sort of unique natural formation and admired the beauty of it one of the questions that we ask ourselves is – how did it get like this? It could be a deep and mighty canyon, a large lonely rock in the middle of the desert or the wonder of a deep spacious cathedral like cave. Have you noticed that you are not the only one to ask that question? At some point there will be an information booth or plaque where an attempt has been made to answer that question. There will usually be a ‘scientific’ explanation and an indigenous cultural story – which one is correct? Every culture in the world, every religion, every walk of life has a story about how the world began. Surely not everyone can be right. If we believe one of those stories we cannot realistically believe the others. There is no solid proof or supported evidence for any account but there are plenty of arguments and theories used in an attempt to win people over. What we believe about how the world began will determine the way we live and view life, death and life after death. It’s probably something you might need to look into a bit deeper instead of taking for granted what is supposedly scientifically supported.
“This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
Jeremiah 33:2-3 NIV
