Can you imagine running a sprinting race where there is no finishing line or a marathon without an end? For some the idea of running at all is just not appealing but hopefully you get the idea. Any sort of race needs a goal, a place to head towards and a line to cross. The finish line provides purpose and hope. Any competitive person will jump at the opportunity to race because that is their purpose in life but without an end there is no hope of stopping, no expectation of relief and no definitive result. For those that follow Jesus, life is a race. We have a reason to run and a finish line to look forward to. The difference is that this race is not competitive although it is unfortunate that many treat it that way. The aim is not only to finish but to help others finish and to show others the race track. Life can be hard, unrelenting and difficult but our challenge is to keep the finish line in our minds to get us through.

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
