Darkness

From a young age children somehow become afraid of the dark. What is it about the dark that brings fear, uncertainty and apprehension? Is it simply the unknown? When we don’t know what obstacles are in our way or what other dangers lurk in the blackness our imagination can run wild. Perhaps we have heard stories of bad things happening in the dark or people with bad intentions hiding under the cover of a moonless night.  Evil is often associated with darkness.  Remember the fear that you felt when going to bed or leaving the campfire after hearing a scary story or watching a horror movie.

In those moment’s of intense fear we seek the comfort of even the smallest light.  Light brings a sense of safety, control and peace into any dark environment.  Darkness can feel heavy, like a blanket or quilt suppressing and surrounding us but even then it is never too heavy to put out any form of light.  The goodness of God shines brightest in the darkest moments of our life.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
