Easter is over for another year, well except for today’s public holiday if you don’t have to work it. The eggs and bunnies that are left in the shops will be marked down and soon disappear. The marketing will be gone and the double demerits points will revert to normal. For those in Australia and New Zealand the focus will quickly change to Anzac Day and the many different reasons to celebrate Easter will be forgotten. There are many who attend a church on Easter as an obligation or as part of their family tradition or because it makes them feel better. They have fulfilled their annual pilgrimage and life returns to normal. It would seem that these people don’t understand or haven’t been taught that following Jesus is a life consuming, lifelong commitment and a life fulfilling dedication. In other words, many are missing out on the benefits of this life and the promises for the life to come by restricting their celebration of Easter to one weekend a year. For those who follow Jesus the significance of Easter does not last simply for three or four days a year but has day after day, year after year eternal and infinite effect.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die; and all those who live and believe in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26 GNB
