Our natural way of seeing life is that it is all about us. We are on this earth for a short time so best we make the most of it. We want to be comfortable, healthy, secure and if possible wealthy. We do all we can to get the best deal, to get the best life possible and to have the best stuff we can afford. Only when our life is good do we generally think of maybe helping others as long as it doesn’t affect us too much. To think of giving up everything we have and not pursuing all we could have in order to help others is not something that many of us would think of doing. Imagine only using your abilities, talents, money, possessions and relationships to help others rather than satisfy your own ambitions. As difficult as it is we generally hold people who do that, like Mother Theresa, in high esteem but generally comment “I could never do that”. Think about how you would feel on the receiving end though. Now that is a different perspective. If someone gave their entire life to help you, how would you feel? I know I would feel loved, valued and overwhelmed. What if the one to help you could have been a King or a CEO or a celebrity but instead decided their life”s mission was to help you? Jesus is just like that but not only does he help us, he died for us too so we could not just have a better life but that we can have an eternal life.

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
